I am a daughter, wife, mom, friend, sister, colleague, and lover of life, with a fierce justice button! I am committed to fighting for equality in my community and beyond, until the time all people are safe and treated with the dignity that each one of us deserves and was created to enjoy. I am a nurse and certified sexual assault nurse examiner (SANE), who has lived abroad, speaks Spanish and currently lives in Minneapolis.
Through years of patient interactions and community work, I have developed The HOPE™ Approach: a framework of interaction with patients at the intersection of health and violence. It is a way of interacting with patient-survivors that builds on strengths, coming from a place of equity. I believe that people are doing the best they can, at any given time based on their circumstances. I have seen that each patient brings their life experiences and history to each health encounter and I am passionate about getting to the root of the issue to help patients interrupt cycles of violence that create lifelong health harm(s). A strengths-based approach and an understanding that patients alone are the experts in their lives are part of a greater philosophy that is grounded in hope.
The work of eliminating violence can seem overwhelming, and at times it is, but I maintain a strong sense of hope because of the resiliency that I’ve been shown by individual survivors that I have known and worked with, and because of the community with whom I surround myself. I am privileged to be a part of a large network of multidisciplinary professionals whom I highly respect and with whom I am in continual collaboration. These beloved survivors and colleagues fuel my passion and perseverance, and remind me that I cannot stop fighting until the work is done!
Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. I'm looking forward to collaborating with you!
